Yes, The scheme to encourage widow remarriage is known as ‘Mangalaya’ . The scheme imparts financial assistance for the widows / divorced to remarry. Women belonging to the age group of 18 – 50 yrs who are legally divorced and widowed can avail the scheme. Financial Assistance of Rs. 25,000/- is provided for eligible widows and divorced women..
Application should be forwarded to Directorate of Social Welfare through the respective child development project offices..
The following particulars should be attached to the application form..
1. Proof of first marriage..
2. Death certificate of first husband..
3. Legal document of divorce..
4. Proof of BPL category..
5. Proof of age in the form of school leaving certificate or certificate issued by competent authority..
6. Proof of Remarriage Certificate.
Question:How could the Social Welfare Department assist the families of prisoners?
The Educational Assistance to Children of Prisoners provides financial help to children of prisoners sentenced for imprisoning for 2 years or more.
•An amount of Rs. 500 per month will be given to children up to 10th standard limited to Rs. 6000/- per year..
•An amount of Rs. 1000 per month from plus two and above limited to Rs. 12,000/- per year.
Applications are accepted by the District Social Welfare Offices, through the jail superintendents.
